Original Scottish contemporary fine art
Welcome to my website of original and affordable paintings.

Message on contact form to buy, or to book a visit at my Open Studio days
NEW WORK released online every month; plus smaller items on Facebook page

Not sure about buying art online? Not a problem - any painting you like the look
of, just ask for photos, and I'll email close-ups, different angles, frame, back and
sides, daylight, etc.... to show you lots of detail before buying.
Prints have never been produced or licenced, everything I paint is a one-of-a-kind original;
big, bright, very affordable paintings, direct from the artist, at around half retail gallery prices!
(part of all sales profits now go the the brilliant Macmillan Cancer Support)

about my work
brushes-3129361  340 (2)

I paint every day, layering canvas with glazes of colour and infusing scenes with
shimmering light; inspired by Scotland in all seasons - big bright skies, colourful
woodlands and fields, lochs and mountains; golden sunsets and misty seascapes,
and the glorious mass of 'machair' wildflower meadows.

I use only best quality professional-grade art materials, from paints (mainly Winsor & Newton) to fine linen on board, & triple-primed stretched canvas.
Some paintings are originals on watercolour paper, these are sold mounted/backed and clear-wrapped, ready for you to take to frame (not sold framed online as they need to go under glass)

My paintings are well-known for their translucent, glowing and light-filled layers of colour; they change
and shimmer at different angles to the light - another reason why I never produce prints.
I add gold leaf, copper, mica (mother-of-pearl) and pure pigments and my own iridescent colours.
All my work is professionally framed or mounted, varnished with a UV protective clear varnish;
wrapped in tissue and ribbon, plus a Certificate of Authenticity, then securely packed using mostly
recycled board, sent by tracked post using Parcelforce.
Can also be collected by arrangement. Studio visits to view any painting can also be booked.
Prices and sizes are on each photo on the 'new work for sale' section.

more about me:-
I've been a professional artist for many years, studying in Hampshire and in Glasgow,
originally working as a textile designer. After a long successful career over the years, selling at events
and in galleries, I now sell direct from my studio on the West coast of Scotland - online from this
website, my Facebook & Instagram business pages, plus private views at 'Open Studio' days.

I believe in affordable art for everyone, and selling now with no gallery commission or the expensive
art fair fees to cover, (a painting from me at £385 is nearly £800 in a gallery, most galleries double the artist price) means the best way to purchase original art is always direct from the artist!
Part of all sales proceeds to the wonderful people at Macmillan Cancer Support.
Plus postage in the UK is free, airmail to USA/Canada is just at cost.

Exhibiting across the UK, including a number of sold-out events, I now have many collectors, including
celebrities and politicians; with customers across Europe plus USA, Canada, Australia, Ireland, etc.

Design and artwork commissioned by - among others - The National Trust for Scotland,
Glasgow Galleries and Museums dept., Scottish Tourist Board, the Edinburgh Festival Company;
and for castles, hotels, company offices, presentations, and private collectors worldwide.
Selected as one of 12 artists for the Scottish Artists Gallery at the John Lewis store in Glasgow.
Gallery exhibitions: many over the past 40 or so years, in Glasgow, Helensburgh, Ayrshire, Stirling,
Yorkshire, Lancashire, Bristol, etc.; with a series of six solo shows (all almost sold-out) at Gleneagles.
Regular exhibitor/demonstrator at contemporary art fairs; plus Badminton, Burghley & other
international horse trials, the RHS national flower shows, major annual events at Chatsworth House,
Scone Palace, Glamis Castle, Royal Highland Show, Country Living shows, design/interiors events.
Featured articles in various magazines and newspapers, including commissioned artwork,
several times described as 'one of the modern Scottish colourists.'

I've also organised many art and design events and exhibitions, designed and managed pop-up galleries, and as a small business owner, took part as a delegate and invited speaker at the EU Conference of Entrepreneurs and SME's in Brussels, as part of the group from Strathclyde University.

It's been a busy life!
