Welcome to my website of original Scottish contemporary paintings.
On these pages you will find a selection from my current ranges of paintings (updated regularly, so check back often)I paint in acrylics, ink, and pastel, often incorporating all of these in mixed-media work, and I am continually experimenting with new ideas and techniques.
(Paintings listed sell quickly, some are also previous commissions illustrated to show what I can do, so just contact me if you like any shown and I can then give you the up-to-date details of similar ones from the range you are interested in.)
My paintings are full of the ever-changing light and colour of the West coast of Scotland, where I have my studio. I paint in soft pastel for seascapes, inspired by the the water, islands, lochs and sunsets across Scotland. I use acrylics and mixed media for my popular series of gloriously colourful landscapes of Scottish fields, as well as views and flowers of Tuscany and Provence. Abstracts on canvas are in mixed media with gold, textured paint, silk threads, and iridescent colours.
Contemporary paintings are also enhanced by my unique method of adding pure gold and copper, floated through fine layers of paint adding to the dramatic finished effect. Other paintings use hand-made papers and gold leaf. Collaged artwork includes a mixture of whatever works best for each piece.
Coming from a family of artists and designers, I have drawn and painted all my life. I am now a full-time painter, I paint every day, even on holidays, and have created this website due to the growing demand for my original art.
I am always happy to take commissions - from small views of islands or making a painting from a photograph, to large contemporary canvases - for your home, for offices, and for one-of-a-kind special presents, and can mail to anywhere in the world, framed and unframed. You can visit me every month at the beautiful Loch Lomond Shores, where I have an always new display, all dates are listed on the events page.
Solo exhibitions are put on in several areas around Scotland, where I show a large display of my paintings, and enjoy spending time talking to interested customers who can browse at leisure, maybe discuss ideas for a commissioned work, or a special gift. I also give a percentage of sales to Cancer Research UK from these events. I exhibit at several other large charity events too, and donate paintings for fund-raising. (Details of these and other shows on the events page)
I always sell to customers at direct-from-the-artist prices, generally around half what it would cost to buy from a commercial gallery; I believe in affordable art! For this reason, I have turned down a number of offers to produce prints, and I never give permission for reproductions, of any
kind. (Everything I make is strictly a one-off - unless an original painting costs thousands, why would anyone want just a paper copy?!)
I also have large and more expensive items in exhibitions, these are priced to take account of the amount of work in them, the framing and gallery commission costs added - large paintings in exhibitions sell from around £500.
My design and art work has been commissioned and purchased by Scottish Tourist Boards, The National Trust for Scotland, Glasgow Gallery of Modern Art, The Edinburgh Festival Company, politicians, castles, company offices, hotels, and private collectors around the world; and has featured in newspapers and magazines.
I was especially pleased to be selected for the Scottish Artists Gallery at the John Lewis store in Glasgow - and delighted to be described as one of the new Scottish colourists.
I am a member of several art groups, including the Society of Scottish Artists
